Key West is in the Caribbean

Written by Author Roy Murry

Most Americans don’t know that Key West, Florida is in the Caribbean and the southernmost city in the Continental United States. This little island is a travel destination that all Americans should visit once in their life time.

The Caribbean sun and sand is waiting for those who want to relax or people watch during the day on Smathers Beach. Bring a book or your eBook and lounge with your partner on this popular site. For the adventurous, hand gliding and other water sports are available.

If you like to wander, there is much to see. There are shops galore to buy almost anything you want, including handmade candles and key lime pie at Kermit’s Shoppe. Bars are everywhere. Hemingway’s old hang out Sloppy Joe’s Bar and the Green Parrot are the most visited, but there are many others. Restaurants are everywhere serving your heart’s desire.

For a cultured experience, the Audubon House and Hemingway’s house are on Whitehead Street. If history is what you like, visit Harry S. Truman’s little White House or Flagler’s Over-Sea Railway Station. Information on these and other places inquire at Key West Chamber of Commerce on Front Street or call (305) 292-5000.

Five to three star accommodations are many and should meet your vacation budget.

You can get to Key West by air or car. Recommend is to take a week vacation, fly to Miami, Florida, rent a car, and drive down the scenic highway through the lesser known beautiful keys.
