AMIDST the RUINS

AMIDST the RUINS

LAURA RISE

Review by Author Roy Murry

Ms. Rise's FBI Agent, Tori Spark, goes on a whirlwind journey with her partner to unravel an unusual crime. Unfortunately for the reader, this mystery thriller's investigation goes off track too many times.

Agent Spark's skills and Ms. Rise's knowledge of investigating a crime are lacking. However, in the end, things fall into place for the agent.

On the other hand, Ms. Rise's writing skills are excellent but a little complicated to understand without reading book one. If you like an FBI series, start with book one. 'Amidst the Ruins' is book two in this series.

Independent Author's Reviews of THE AUDUBON CAPER

5 Star Reviews of The Audubon Caper

The Audubon Caper is a hair-raising, eye-opening story you won't miss, particularly if you want to glimpse how one of our intelligence agencies conducts some of its covert operations.

Danny Kemp, author of The Desolate Garden, wrote:

I have read this book and can happily recommend it. It is a thoroughly enjoyable story told with conviction and expertise.

Rags Daniels, the author of  Lallapaloosa, wrote:

'The 'Audubon Caper' is 'an utterly compelling, riveting, factual roller coaster ride.

I will devour my hat if it doesn't on the big screen.

PS; I guarantee you will hate reaching the end.

Faith Helen Mortimer, author of many mystery novels, wrote:

R. Murry has written a good book here, with plenty to excite and interest the reader and add reality to the story. The fluency and pace kept me on edge until the end. This was a most enjoyable read; if you like thrillers, this one could be for you.

Seumas Gallacher, author of SAVAGE PAYBACK, says:
I've been seduced by a storyline from the first page, as I was with The Audubon Caper.

the back cover of the book:

"The "Audubon Caper is a page-turner."

This TRUE story is filled with SEX and LIES. I LOVED IT. All the accounts in this exciting mystery are true, and the facts are there. Am I right? I DON'T!!!

Theresa Brau, author of Groom and Doom and English teacher, wrote:

R. Murry Murry's Audubon Caper is a fast-paced story. There are so many things going on in this creative nonfiction tale. One of the most extraordinary things about this book is that it's based on a true story…

Zoe Saadia, author of HIGHLANDER and many historical novels, wrote:

I had meant to pick "Audubon Caper" for some time, but when I peeked into the sample chapter, I knew I had to read this book. It gripped me from the beginning, the author addressing the reader in the friendly conversational way of someone telling you his story…

Cynthia J Smith, poet and author of Voices in My Head, wrote:

Mr. Murry writes so smoothly that the story flows from past to present without a ripple. His scenes of sex and drugs evoke the activities of that era but are written to add to the story instead of becoming a significant piece of it.

Larry B. Gray, author and blogger, wrote:

Do you want to read a book that you cannot count? Do you want a book that will grab you by the seat of the pants and will not let you go? The Audubon Caper by R. Murry is just the book for you. In this true-crime

Maids of Misfortune

MAIDS OF MISFORTUNE

M. LOUISA LOCKE

Review by Author Roy Murry

Annie is a widow, a clairvoyant dealing in financial matters, and becomes a spy to find the murderer of a client. She is a lady who becomes a maid to solve the crime.

In her Victorian journey, Annie teams up with a lawyer named Nate. There are sparks of endearment between the two as Annie breaks all the norms of women in the late 1800s.

The supporting and involved characters round out an interesting plot seldom used in a mystery. Ms. Locke makes it work with entertaining conversations, detailed background, and writing that keep the reader wondering what comes next.

Only with You

ONLY WITH YOU

LEA COLL

Review by Author Roy Murry

Hadley is running away from her controlling, wealthy New Orleans father. Cades has shunned his family after the death of his soul mate.

These two characters meet under unusual circumstances in Annapolis, Maryland, Cade's hometown. They are neighbors; she is a lawyer, and he is a martial arts instructor and a construction company owner.

Their relationship begins with legal business and blooms into something neither anticipated. Both are running away from personal commitments: Hadley is not standing up to her father, and Cade is not letting go of his grief.

Ms. Coll brings them together in a compelling story with dialog that engages the reader. The plot and characters set up book 2 in this series, which reads like a novella.

It's a good Romantic read.

MOON RITUALS

MOON RITUALS: Harness Lunar Power for Manifestation, Healing, and Spiritual Growth: A Practical Guide to Lunar Witchcraft for Modern Witches and Spiritual Seekers

ANN WESTWOOD

Review by Author Roy Murry

The title of this book is A Mouth-Full. Let me boil Moon Rituals down for you: the book is a self-help exercise.

Although Ms. Westwood's prose is intriguing, many exercises are repetitive, especially when the moon's reflection on the earth changes. If the reader needs a crutch or system to improve their life, following and using the moon's waxing and journaling your activities may help you develop a bright future.

Over my adult seventy-six years, I have read many self-help books. Unless you care to use witchcraft or the moon to guide your life, I recommend you read the non-fiction The Power of the Subconscious Mind before this book.

Holidays can be Murder

HOLIDAYS can be MURDER.

CONNIE SHELTON

Review by Author Roy Murry

HOLIDAYS is the first book I have read by Ms. Shelton. I am impressed with the story's setup. However, the mystery is easy to figure out - her neighbor's mother-in-law is killed.

The characters are well-developed for a series, and the main character, Charlie Parker, controls the action throughout the play. She finds clues while the detective in her company, her brother, is not involved.

Those follow-ups take Charlie in circles and lead her back to square one, where the answer lies. The adventure is enjoyable for the reader.

Demon-Haunted World

THE DEMON-HAUNTED WORLD

CARL SAGA

Reviewed by Author Roy Murry

If you have an INQUISITIVE mind, this discourse on science vs. the human race will make you want to read more of Carl Saga's analysis of the world around you. Unfortunately, he died in 1996, but fortunately, he left many works. Read COSMOS, as I did.

This book is not light reading for the beach unless you read one chapter, put the book down, and contemplate what you read. These 482 pages of controversial information are appropriate to today's events as they were when written.

USA Note: Our founding fathers "were self-sufficient, not requiring careers as politicians or lobbyists to make a living." Also..."Every government degenerates when trusted to the rulers (Career Politicians) of the people alone."

With some gems of observation, such as the above, Mr. Sagan contends that Jeffersonian science is the way to defeat the world's haunted demons.

Read this book to expand your horizons.

MOZZARELLA MURDER

MOZZARELLA MURDER

A Rolling Dough Pizza Truck

Mystery Book 1

R.M. MURPHY

Review by Author Roy Murry

Denny is starting a new life operating a pizza truck and snooping part-time. While picking up MOZZARELLA cheese at a friend's Cheese Shop, a famous man is found dead behind the counter.

Since he has time to spend and it is his old stomping grounds, he starts investigating. During his snooping, he meets old friends.

If I hear that puppy Yorkies are cute again, I will bark. Mr. Murphy overdoes the dog bit and does little character-building on the sleuthing.

This book is a short mystery. There is doubt about what is going on or who did it. Only one event the police overlooked reveals the truth.

It is a quick, somewhat enjoyable read, but as in book 1, it is not among the best. But if you love food, Yorkies, and cozy murder mysteries, this is for you.

My First, My Last, My Only

MY FIRST, MY LAST, MY ONLY

A Granite Cove Novel

DENISE CARBO

Review by Author Roy Murry

This love story starts with a teenage kiss and ends with a new beginning. It is a Hallmark movie theme with a twist.

Fanny, her nickname, meets Mitch during a summer at the Granit Cove beach when they are teens. He only comes there in the summer for a few years and never returns.

Mitch becomes a star in Hollywood. Fanny finds her passion in cooking and owns a bakery/coffee shop in Granite Cove. Mitch arrives, and his agent purchases the two-story building where her shop is. She had a bid for the property because the second story is an apartment.

He moves into the apartment, and the affair begins: Love, hate, jealousy, mother problems, and other impediments arise to keep Fanny and Mitch apart. Until...

Extremely well-written. The reader may have tears at the end.

Mystery of Mistletoe Hall

THE MYSTERY OF MISTLETOE HALL

A Standalone 1920s Christmas Mystery

BENEDICT BROWN

Review by Author Roy Murry

When the ex-superintendent of the London police invites you to his mansion, Mistletoe Hall, for a Christmas event, you go. Lord Edgington receives the letter invite, collects family and staff, and proceeds to the weekend festivities.

When they arrive at the mansion, no one is in the building. Edgington, an ex-detective, and his grandson Christopher reconnoiter the large property looking for life. They find the master of Mistletoe Hall frozen, hung, shot, and dead.

While the Lord and Christopher are investigating, others arrive with invites in hand. The two investigators stay hush-hush about what they find, and a party member goes to fetch the police in heavy snow.

Their skills, mainly the Lord's, are used to look for the killer among the guests, which will be interesting for the reader to untangle as the story progresses. The twists and turns, including other murders, will keep the reader turning the page.

Lord Edgington and Christopher are the main characters that propel the story forward and are the series' fun tit-for-tat linchpin.

War on Warriors

THE WAR ON WARRIORS:

Behind the Betrayal of the Men Who Keep Us Free

PETE HEGSETH

Review by Author Roy Murry

As an ex-Army Special Forces Vietnam Veteran, from Mr. Hegseth's biography and this book, Pete has earned his STRIPS, as we say in the Army, to become the Secretary of the DoD. During his confirmation, the Senators will use 'War on Warriors' for and against him. I am for confirmation.

Pete Hegseth's book addresses pressing issues such as the erosion of the military's mission by 'wokeness' and leftist ideas. His discussion on the current state of war engagement versus the ideal approach is particularly urgent. Afghanistan?

He explains his military experiences, concluding that the forty-four United States generals must change their direction philosophically and return to the reality of war engagement, or they should retire. He may soon be able to force some of them into retirement, which I agree to.

Pete Hegseth's writing in 'The War on Warriors' is clear, understandable, and deeply convincing. If you are concerned about the future direction of the United States, this book is an essential read that will undoubtedly influence your perspective.
