Reivew of FORMAL ARRANGEMENT

FORMAL ARRANGEMENT

KYLIE GILMORE

Review by Author Roy Murry

Lauren, a teacher, signs an agreement with Alex, an artist, to care for his two-year-old daughter during summer break, Viv—the arrangement between one hottie and another hottie. It could only end in a "Happy Endings Book Club" conclusion, as all the stories in this eleven-book series.

If you love HALLMARK movies, this is right up your alley: no significant twists and turns. Lauren wants what Alex has, and vice versa.

There is some hot sex, and it is preordained that marriage is in the cards. Viv is the linchpin - she loves Lauren, her second mommy.

The story is well-written, with some girlie-funny conversations. However, I will not buy another book in the series, but if you are a romantic and like happy-ending stories, start with book 1.

Review of LUCK OF THE WITCH

LUCK OF THE WITCH

Crypt Witch

Cozy Mystery Series

K.E. O'CONNOR

Review by Author Roy Murry

What could be better than a Witch in a Cozy Mystery? Not much for me.

This story was quick for me. Willow Tree Falls is a magic tourist trap where Tempest Crypt, her family, and her hellhound reside with other witches, demons, and angels.

Tempest has a demon living within her, and her hound can talk. The other characters of the town are also strange - angels are the police, and others are half one thing or another.

Tempest's sister Aurora is arrested for murder by an unruly angel, and her investigation begins. Then, all the weird twists and turns for who murdered the mayoral candidate develop into many laughs.

Tempest and the Angel Police Force only know who has done it once a secret comes out on election day.

Review of High heels are Murder

High Heels are murder.

Josie Mystery Shopper

ELAINE VIETS

Review by Author Roy Murry

Fetishes go amok after Josie completes a job as a mystery shopper at a women's shoe store. The store salesman who waited on her gets canned after she reports his strange cleaning of her shoes in the storeroom.

Even stranger is the man's murder that evening. How Josie gets involved with investigating the case is another conundrum, considering the person she is helping – her neighbor's daughter, who was arrested for the killing.

The salesman is wealthy, and many of the store's clients are entertaining at his massive house in a gated community. Josie and her long-time friend Alyce, side-kick, discover that bizarre occurrences played out numerous times.

Those weird taped events led to the demise of the salesman. How it happened makes a good read, with even a love story brewing.

Review of THE ORPHANAGE

THE ORPHANAGE

Shilling Granger Children's Home Book 1

Lizzie Page

Review by Author Roy Murry

Wars kill people and displace them. During World War II, England's children were sent away from London because of the German Blitzkrieg. Many are placed in orphanages.

Shilling Granger is about eight children living with an unqualified housemother named Clara in a government-run home. Clara is self-absorbed until events change her.

The individual characters of those children transform Clara and the orphanage into a loving environment with conflict from the outside world. Troubles arise, leading to the destruction of their community by the government.

THE ORPHANAGE has many stories to follow, but the central theme is compelling and heartwarming - a child needs love to grow healthy. The author does an excellent job of portraying that, using multiple personalities.

Review of STOLEN IN THE NIGHT

STOLEN IN THE NIGHT

PATRICIA MacDONALD

Review by Author Roy Murry

The person stolen in the night is thirteen-year-old Phoebe, sleeping in a tent with her nine-year-old sister Tess, who sees the kidnapper. Later that night, Phoebe died at the hands of a pervert.

A man is caught based on Tess's identification and other evidence. He is tried and killed by the government. This thriller comes alive twenty years later when doubt arises - did he do the crime?

Tess and her family say he did. Some new evidence leads to doubt, and Tess investigates to prove her position, leading to twists and turns.

When the doubt festers, logic and tempers arise, putting Tess and her son in a deadly event. That and other events produce other crimes.

MacDonld's writing is well constructed, but the reader will find the story unbelievable in this country, 2023.

Review of OUTLIVE

OUTLIVE

The Science & Art

of Longevity

PETER ATTIA, MD

Review by Author Roy Murry

OUTLIVE is a non-fiction, with many medical terms sometimes slowing the reading. However, the information within is understandable and usable to ward off what Attia calls the four Horsemen (Sickness) that plague humans.

Your health via exercise, nutrition, sleep, and mental health can slow the human death rate. In narrative form, Dr. Attia lays out the norms and highs of each area with personal and patient history so that you can understand where you are on life's spectrum.

He does not recommend medicines and notes to check with your doctor. All his remedies are within one's reach with serious due diligence.

Peter Attia's Healthspan and Lifespan dissertation is worth the read if you care about your health.

REview of EVERY WITCH WAY BUT GHOULS

EVERY WITCH WAY BUT GHOULS

Magical Misfits Mysteries

K. E. O'Connor

Review by Author Roy Murry

Zanda, the witch, has a familiar cat named Juno who runs the show. This novel is a cat's world from the beginning to the end.

Yes, there is a mystery of why a human's head got blown off, but that is not what keeps the story going. All the other misfit characters, from hellhounds to ghouls, give flavor to an ordinary plot.

The conversations are cute and sometimes provocative. But overall, this is a funny story of how animals run human lives. In this case, Juno runs Zanda's life.

The background and craziness of the misfits is a well-written beginning of a series - too crazy for me. If you love cats, this book is for you.
