Review of DARING the DUKE

DARING the DUKE

CHARLIE LANE

Review by Author Roy Murry

Lady Tabitha Hampton and her friends played dare games with each other. Tabitha is to introduce herself to the young Duke under a different name.

She did it four times, each at a separate event. The duke confronts her at one and so does the tit-for-tat in their Romance.

Because of the Duke's family will, several family members must approve of Lady Tabitha's abilities to be their Duchesses. Let the games begin - Under Eighteen Century rules.

Funny, but to be considered, Tabitha has red hair. Items like this make for quick and fun reading when knowing our norms today.

Review of RISKY BISQUENESS

RISKY BISQUENESS

ELIZABETH RAIN

Review by Author Roy Murry

This novel is a mystery that has strange bedfellows: ghosts and witches. Juli inherits uncle Jed's restaurant, 'Snips and Snails,' and ends up looking for his murderer.

The story is full of laughs a minute as Juli navigates learning how to be a Soup Witch with the help of Grans, a witch, running a restaurant, and dealing with the ghosts/cats in the kitchen. As an investigator, she upsets locals and the police chief, looking for clues.

With all this going on, Juli finds a relationship with Jack, a firefighter, a la hunk. He helps her to understand the humans in her new hometown and find the killer.

She is on her own with the other witches and ghosts.

Ms. Rain's novel is an enjoyable read.

Review of TABOO

TABOO

10 FACTS (You Can't Talk About)

WILFRED REILLY

Review by Author Roy Murry

What you can't talk about is a phrase that puts me in a tailspin. So, when I saw the cover of Dr. Reilly's dissertation on racial mores, I needed to read the book.

I am not an intellectual, but I have always been able to pick a phony. Dr. Reilly is not one. He is an intellectual, as was Thomas Sowell, who opened my mind to some ideas I didn't understand. They each have a different take on racism.

Wilfred Reilly's TABOO taught me things I had yet to learn because of a lack of study. Example: Anthropologists and biologists agreed that there are four primary genetic human races: Caucasian, Mongolian/Asiatic, and Negroid.

What are we thinking today - Black and White racism only? At SCOTUS today, there is an Affirmative Action case - Asians against Harvard because of its Diversity quota system.

Then, as some on the RIGHT would say, there is White Racism? There is too much in this book to explain. It would be best if you read it.

Dr. Reilly's prose is easy to follow and overly detailed. The only drawback is the multiple uses of IQ for layering races and some repetitions of themes.

Review of THE SOCIAL EXPERIMENT

THE SOCIAL EXPERIMENT

ADDISON MOORE

Review by Author Roy Murry

This series Book 1, is a young adult Hallmark-type novel with vulgarity. Example: "Ember says that guys who are into oral are worth their weight in cunnilingus gold."

Sophie and Rowen grew up together and were in love at a young age. However, their love never connected because of an entanglement between Rowen and Sophie's brother.

Family allegiance keeps them apart until they meet in a college social experiment. Then, love blooms in the childish experiment, and the battle lines flare up.

The story ends in Hallmark fashion, leading the reader into book two. Again, Moore writes well with funny sexual connotations.

Review of IF SHE DIES

IF SHE DIES

ERIC THERME

Review by Author Roy Murry

A five-year-old daughter is murdered, and the mother, Tess, goes off the rails, not receiving psychotic treatment. Her husband, Josh, appeases her to no avail and has his secrets.

Tess also does some unusual things, like stocking the daughter of the man who killed her's. This engagement leads to disturbing events interwoven throughout the story.

IF SHE DIES is a powerful story of marriage's strengths and weaknesses - the give and take involved in keeping together. The author does an excellent job of portraying the love between a man and a woman.

Disturbing and fast-paced read.

Review of KISS ME WHEN I'M DEAD

KISS ME WHEN I'M DEAD

DOMINIC PIPER

Review by Author Roy Murry

'KISS ME...' is the second Dominic Piper novel I have read. FEMME FATALE was the other.

Daniel Beckett is a detective who projects himself into the lives of many women who fall for his not-committal aura. However, on his mission to find a beautiful missing young lady, Beckett, the smooth one, is interrupted in his quest by well-endowed and attractive women.

It is not all play. Daniel's contract with an old wealthy gun runner to find his lost daughter is complicated, and it seems she does not want to be. Some of her acquaintances give Beckett clues about her whereabouts and extracurricular activity that both parties enjoy.

The twist and turns of this adventure will keep the reader engaged. Nevertheless, the reader will not know who the bad guys are in the end unless he or she catches the clues.

Piper's story is not erotic but has enjoyable encounters. The surprising ending will be a hair-raising experience, making the reader think, "What is wrong with some people?"

The writing is intelligent, witty, and brutal. 'KISS ME...' is a quick read for a weekend.
