Review of THE CASE FOR TRUMP

THE CASE FOR TRUMP

VICTOR DAVIS HANSON

Review by Author Roy Murry

The book THE CASE FOR TRUMP is the fourth I have read by the historical intellectual Davis Hanson; see the list below. I am a non-aligned voter who believes the present two-party works as one party. I always seek answers as to why.

Trump came into the picture 2016, and many newsworthy conflicts became the norm. VDH takes the reader through those conflicts - politically and personally charged.

You may disagree with VDH as to Trumps, Never-Trumpers, Democrats, and Republicans' motives pro and con, but you will find VDH's historical data complete. His narrative of the rollercoaster Trump journey into the White House up to November 1, 2019, is profoundly contra to what the Washington elite and political profundity got the USA into over the last twenty years.

'The (USA) status quo certainly was neither stable nor sustainable,' Davis Hanson explaining the US conflicts before Trump's arrival. I believe that the US Citizen's needs came second to the globalists - wealth and political needs of the military and industrial complex.

THE CASE FOR TRUMP is a must-read for those with an Inquisitive Mind.

Review of Pretty Little Fliers

Pretty Little Fliers

Pet Psychic Magical Mysteries

ERIN JOHNSON

Review by Author Roy Murry

Jolene is a pet psychic - not really, but she can talk to the animals. Peter is a hunk of a police officer with a magic wand and has a partner named Daisy, a dog who can tell if a perp is telling the truth. What a setup for a fun series!

The murder is simple: a woman falls out of a building. The investigation by the trio is hilarious, with a sarcastic undertone and highlighted by spells and caramels.

This novel is a fun fantasy a young adult or an old fart like myself will enjoy. The colorful characters are a sound basis for generating more comedic adventurous crime-solving.

The storyline is incredibly developed and well worth the dime.

Review of BENT

BENT: A Love's Complicated Novel

HOLLIS WYNN

Review by Author Roy Murry

Carrigan has been in a mental funk for years because of her relationship with her mother, whom she has cared for from a young age. Believing in herself was difficult until she moved from her hometown to Chicago when her mother died.

Little by little, Carrigan's self-confidence grows with the help of Whit, a man she meets on the train and a friend at her new job. Her love for Whit increases and becomes complicated because of his life's events in motion.

How the novel ends will surprise the reader. For a first novel, Ms. Wynn hits all the buttons - good characters, emotional evaluation, excellent conversations, and tear-jerking situations of a young single living alone in the big city.

This novel is well worth the dime.

Review of SAILOR'S CHOICE

SAILOR'S CHOICE - A Connie Barrera Thriller

CLR DOUGHTERY

Review by Author Roy Murry

This novel is the twelfth in the series. I have read four of CLR's novels, starting with LOVE FOR SAIL in 2018, which you should also do.

However, SAILOR'S CHOICE stands on its own. Connie and her husband take on a contracted couple to sail to a Caribbean Island on their sailing yacht DIAMANTISTA II. Karen and Mike, researchers, go ashore to investigate a volcano and do not return.

Connie and Paul report the people as missing to the island's police - the adventure begins. This thriller's intriguing twists and turns lead to murder, kidnapping, and corporate espionage.

With a supporting cast of characters that Connie and Paul have acquired over their careers, her sailing in the Caribbean, and he a Miami homicide Captain, the web closes in on the criminals. How they accomplish this feat is fascinating, as are all of Charles Dougherty's novels. In the end, you will be happy you read the adventure.

I will read another of his novels soon because of the adventure of reading about the Caribbean, where I lived for twenty-eight years in the Hospitality Industry - Dominican Republic to Margarita, Venezuela.

Review of A MATCH for MAUDE

A MATCH for MAUDE

A Lilac City Romance Novella, Book 1

DONNA K, WEAVER

Review by Author Roy Murry

The Lancaster sisters, Maude, Doris, and Frances, are in a serious situation after the death of their father. Their uncle, who seems to be the executor of their father's will, has given them an ultimatum that will destroy their lives.

Without the uncle's knowledge, the three head on an adventure to reunite hundreds of train miles from home with the brother. Aunt Ann knows and seeks help from Charles, an ex-Pinkerton officer, to protect the women.

He agrees, and the cross-country adventure begins. The uncle, who has a nefarious quest, will do anything to get these women under his control.

With all this going on, Maude and Charles, who have similar backgrounds fall for each other. This romance begins an excellent series with characters and Western Hospitality that will encourage readers to continue.

A fast, enjoyable read.

Review of NEW ORLEANS MOURNING

NEW ORLEANS MOURNING

JULIE SMITH

Review by Author Roy Murry

Why is New Orleans mourning? One of its Rexes, a king of the Mardi Gras parade, is shot dead near the end of the proceeding by A Dolly Parton look-a-like.

This police drama's lead character is an Uptown girl who returns home after a long journey to become an officer. Skip is her name, and the chief puts her together with two veteran homicide detectives to solve the crime because of her status with the in-crowd.

The old mystery cliche is "The Butler did it." But, in Mourning, the killer is closer than one would think. A historical love-hate relationship between family and friends is the key to this drama.

Ms. Smith's knowledge of NOLA's class system and the city's layout is a fascinating part of the story. Having been to New Orleans twice, I followed her tour.

Skip intermingles with the right people finding important information that will surprise the reader. "Mourning" is a long, good read.

VOODOO & VAMPIRES

A Blood Witch Saga. Book 1

THEOPHILUS MONROE

Review by Author Roy Murry

I am not a believer in Witchcraft, Vampires, or Voodoo. However, I like a fun read, and this fits the bill. You may learn something new from this adventure if you are a believer.

Hailey, a teenager, learns she is a witch, becomes a vampire, and then learns a little voodoo. All this is in the first few chapters.

Reading about her character's development defines the storyline's direction - Hailey is unique. She is a Blood Witch who agrees to an implausible main story task.

The supporting characters add humor and advice to this adventure leading to hell. This first in a series is a fun Young Adult read.

Review of MURDER in the MAPLE

MURDER in the MAPLE

A Wicked Wick Mystery

MELROSE MCFADDEN

Review by Author Roy Murry

Wicked Wick is a candle and trinket boutique owned by Paloma and Leigh in a small town with a defuncted maple factory. Adam is in the process of renovating the buildings into a B & B.

The renovation becomes a significant historical problem when a dead body is found behind a wall. Dating the skeleton and who it is, is unraveled, turning the sleuthing duo Paloma and Leigh into action.

Each has unique talents that help Cole, the sheriff, in his investigation. In addition, he and the other towns characters make this mystery in a series enjoyable to read.

However, the plot is easy to figure out. Excitement leads to the predictable killer.

The story is well-written and worth the dime.

Review by Author Roy Murry

"Life, Beth, is giving you a chance now - a chance to gain a new perspective. Or, if you'll let me say it, to gain new sight," Terri, a blind friend on the transportation to Lighthouse for the Blind. This helps Elizabeth get through a low period in her mental journey.

That journey took many years of primarily searching for how to reverse the trauma of becoming blind after being sighted into her twenties. The book's cover and the Amazon intro give the reader a short version.

However, Beth travels through a valley of darkness few people could imagine. She tells it with pizzazz and reflective stories.

Those eventful narratives will keep the reader turning the page to find out what comes next. What the reader will find is a new life perspective.

Review of THE COWGIRL GETS THE BAD GUY

THE COWGIRL GETS THE BAD GUY

Cowgirl Mystery

SUSAN LOWER

Review by Author Roy Murry

Jolene or Jo's father lost half of their gold mine claim to The Gambler. Jo's problems are three-fold - he also gave her away to marry The Gambler; they support Indians who live on the property, and he dies the same night.

Her father's murder and who has the actual claim to the property is the mystery. Only a judge can make that legal decision, which comes at the end of this volatile story.

Unpredictable because Jo keeps on putting her foot in her mouth, trying to find out what happened. Also, she gets into a written agreement with The Bounty Hunter to help with her predicament.

A lot is happening in this story, making it an excellent first book for a series. I may return for more, but you should enjoy this Cowgirl Mystery first.

DISEASE and HISTORY

From Ancient Times

to Covid-19

Frederick F Cartwright &

Michael Biddiss

Review by Author Roy Murry

This non-fiction is for my followers with Inquisitive Minds. Humanity has lived through many historical disasters.

Cartwright and Biddiss' chronicle of how we got to the 21st Century after wars and diseases interrupted the human race's growth. Humans do not know History and do not apply it to present-day events.

When I was in the military, we learned ways to avoid diseases we did not know about in WWI and prior. However, new ones arrive, and we must deal with them.

"From Ancient Times to Covid-19" is a long period, so I will not go into detail. Instead, read this well-written informational journal slowly to understand the full impact of diseases on History.

Holly's fiancé is in Asia working, and she is at the spa getting spruced up for his return to England for Christmas. Rebecca is giving Holly lessons on being married under similar circumstances.

Holly's mind goes into tailspins and is comforted by her bamboo massage therapist. Then, a text message from Asia arrives, influencing Holly's future.

THE GIFT OF FEAR

Survival Signal that

Protect us from Violence

GAVIN DE BECKER

Review by

Author Roy Murry

If your Common Sense and Intuition need revision, this book is for you. De Becker gears the book toward many women's trust in men they associate with - husbands, boyfriends, men they meet, and abusers.

I found the book thought-provoking and educational for insecure people. However, strong-minded humans will enjoy the read, taking away little besides the stressful stories of others.

De Becker's knowledge of deranged humans is profound. He devils into how society confronts them and how those people develop, putting fear into any loving parent bringing up a child.

THE GIFT OF FEAR is a well-written and gripping read.

THE WILD CHILD

(The Bride Trilogy, Book 1)

Mary Joe Putney

Review by Author Roy Murry

A faerie-like creature, Lady Meriel is MAD, according to one uncle, who has nefarious reasons. However, if she were married, that madness would somehow disappear, believes another uncle with joint control.

Because of Lord Maxwell's love conflict, Dominic, his twin, shows up as the betrothed instead of Maxwell. They made a deal, but both expected something else.

The above sets the plot for what produces endearing encounters between Meriel and Dominic. Then, however, evil enters their loving relationship, leading to an entr'acte and a deadly ending.

This novel is too long for me. But the story keeps the reader's attention because of the characters' actions. Romantics will be happy with this story.

FLOPS-FLIPS and MURDER

Barefoot Sleuth Mysteries, Book 1

H.Y. HANNA

Review by Author Roy Murry

Twenty-six-year-old Londoner Ellie's Aunt Olive, author extraordinaire, invites her to the west coast of Florida during Europe's winter. Unfortunately, when she arrives, the aunt is nowhere to be found; the next day, a writer at the convention is in the swimming pool dead outside Ellie's room.

Ellie has no clue what is happening but involves herself, sleuthing in a non-logical way. She meets and talks to people and learns a lesson - do not believe everything you are told or hear.

A non-swimmer, Ellie ends up in the deep pool in more ways than one. As a result, she loses one lousy relationship and gains a good one, ending this adventure.

I have lived in Florida for years and picked up Ms. Hanna's writing flaws, which most readers will not. However, the background story and the characters are well-developed to enhance good sequels.

Review of THE KEY TO JUSTICE

THE KEY TO JUSTICE

DENNIS CARSTENS

Review by Author Roy Murry

This legal thriller keeps the reader on the edge of their seat. Carstens' legal knowledge enhances the core story of a man on trial for serial killings in Minnesota.

The twist and turns of who is the real murderer are affected by police involvement. Interwoven throughout the investigation of the crimes are deceiving clues that lead to a page-turning story.

This Book, 1 of Mr. Carstens' series, has all the good qualities: characters you want to follow up; and a well-defined background. In addition, his writing is crisp and fast-moving.

The main characters, Marc and Maddy, spark up the series. He is a well-versed lawyer; she is a beautiful P.I. you want to watch in action. They help to bring this action-filled novel to an uncharacteristic explosive ending for a legal drama.

I have read two of Dennis Carstens' novels; all stories stand-alone except for these main characters. Fantastic reads.

Both are gorgeous, according to the people around them and how they see each other. However, Maci and Raph have hidden flaws.

This novel is a romance, so you know they will fall for each other without revealing their complete background. Unfortunately, these problems lead to some interruptions in it.

Review of LIBERAL MISERY

LIBERAL MISERY

EDDIE SCARRY

Review by Author Roy Murry

This book is 'Political Commentary,' by a man who tells you he is gay at the beginning of the first of five long chapters with extensive references. Eddie writing this is not essential to me.

I read Thomas Sowell's 'INTELLECTUALS and SOCIETY.' without knowing he is black. What is important to me is content for the inquisitive mind or the fun enjoyment of reading.

LIBERAL MISERY is a book for the Inquisitive Mind, most of my followers. He gets to the point of his comments and backs them up with references - more like a dissertation than a story.

The subjects covered are contemporary: political behavior, comedy, elections, riots, and what the left calls an insurrection. Mr. Scarry's comments are conservative-based.

Whether you agree with Eddie or not, the insight is worth this fun read when you know the conclusions of the events within the book.

This Bliss Bay Village Mystery, book 1, sets up a series of a town full of gossip. Megan returns home, stops for coffee, and walks into murder one.

Mystery one is followed by two, three, and four. Too much for one novel. What do you think?

Right. Too many storylines and town bios to remember for book 2. However, the flow is well-penned, and Megan's communication skills lead to a worthy ending.

Even the mystery of the Tabby, a cat for Americans, has a hard-rock ending. BODIES is my first cozy English mystery which was longer than average; however fun to read.

When a disastrous event happens in Celeste's life, the relationship diminishes but ends predictably. Gabe takes the lead deciding to save the day for her without anyone's knowledge.

Can cybersex lead to love? Does it with Cassie and Ian, who work on a project together, her in the USA South and him in California? Or is it just a ploy by Ian?

The roadblocks seem impossible, but with literally a spank on the ass from Sasha, Cassie might get her man. The idea sounds kinky, but to Ian, it's a turn-on.

However, Cassie gets a slap "In the face,' from Ian, who is doing his dirty job. After both events, the novel's ending is surprising.

Review of THE BODY KEEPS THE SCORE

THE BODY KEEPS THE SCORE

Brain, Mind, and Body

in the Healing of Trauma

BESSEL VAN DER KOLK, M. D.

Review by Author Roy Murry

This review is one of 61,471 on Amazon, some of which read like term papers. So, my review will be short; I am not one of Bessel’s colleagues. LOL.

However, I agree that it is a good read for psychiatrists and people caring for trauma patients. In addition, the general public with an Inquisitive Mind, like myself and my followers, will enjoy the education about trauma.

Although Bessel uses the word I too much, he and his cohorts have made significant accomplishments in treating trauma: PTSD in veterans and children, rape victims, and criminals. He does admit that human nature, as it is, will not change; therefore, trauma cases will always manifest.

Treating them is the problem—the questions: how, who, what, when, and why come into question.

If you have time to read five hundred pages of a dissertation, I recommend this book for its readable content that will surprise you.

Review of LITERATURE and the CULTURE WARS

LITERATURE and the NEW CULTURE WARS

DEBORAH APPLEMAN

Review by Roy Murry, Author

I do not have a Ph.D., nor am I a teacher of Literature. However, I did have the opportunity in college to take two courses in American Literature which I excelled, and I have read thousands of books, novels, and papers.

In reviewing Ms. Appleman's dissertation on teaching American and English Literature, one does not need to have Critical Race Theory as part of the syllabist. However, she believes the professor must not cater to the whims of the students, faculty, and an uncultured society.

CTR is not Literature. It's seventy-five percent history and twenty-five percent propaganda - not a text to evaluate icons like Mark Twain, Hemingway, Shakespeare, or Toni Morrison. I agree with L.P. Hartley: "The past is a foreign country; they do things differently there."

If you have an Inquisitive Mind, as I do, you will purchase this book. Beforehand, this is written for the literature teacher and is detailed in jargon.

Review of THE BINDING

THE BINDING

 BRIDGET COLLINS

 Review by Author Roy Murry

In the nineteenth century, Emmett is to be a binder - a person who takes an individual's memories and hides them in the pages of a book for safekeeping. His sexual memory is in question.

Reading THE BINDING will put the reader through a gamut of emotions that will self-analyze one's life. Would I like to have some of my life removed from my thought process?

I say no. How about you? However, the concept is written intriguingly by Ms. Collins in novel form.

When Emmett comes of age as a binder, he realizes the enormity of the falseness in the binding process, which includes the book of his male lover. Then, in an explosive and disturbing escapade, Emmett and his lover are free to think for themselves.

But are they? Worth the read for a person with an INQUISITIVE MIND.

TWISTED JUSTICE

DENNIS CARSTENS

Review by Author Roy Murry

TWISTED JUSTICE is my third Carstens novel read and the twelfth in his Marc Kadella legal series. In his writing, he brings out the worst and best of humanity.

Marc, a defense lawyer, and his lover Maddy, a PI, round out a group of characters that propel the series forward by getting to the truth of a crime. In this novel, a friend of Marc's is charged with the horrendous murder of his wife.

The wife's secret life, the group of her friends, and her well-connected clients play a role in this twisted case. Marc and his cohorts develop a plausible defense.

In his deductive evaluation, however, Marc knows the truth and keeps it to himself, which leads to a thrilling closure. The twists and turns of this well-written novel will keep you reading to the end.

Review of A LEGACY WITCH

A LEGACY WITCH

Spellcasters Spy Academy

ASHLEY McLEO

Review by Roy Murry

Merlin, a warlock of the King Arthur fable, is rolling in his tomb laughing - an academy for witches to become spies. However, Ms. Ashley Mcleo pulls off the legacy in a fun way for young adults to enjoy.

Odette Dane is an academy legacy enrollee at Spellcasters, which she gets flack for by young witches who took the test to get into the college-like school. But, during this first in a series book, she passes necessary tests with magical help to the surprise of all.

These adventures involve vampires and monsters taught in school classes. The descriptions are funny and horrific simultaneously - enjoyable, even for an older adult like me.

Ms. McLeo's writing is crisp and flows easily with exciting characters, including Odette's soulmate. In this novel, she leaves the reader wondering what happened in four deadly events for solving in books 2 and 3.

Review of PLAYING with FIRE

PLAYING with FIRE

Island Fire Series

AMY KNUPP

Review by Author Roy Murry

When you love someone, and that person dies in a tragic event, it seems like the world has ended. In PLAYING with FIRE, Derek, an ex-firefighter, withdraws into another existence after his love dies in a fire.

Since childhood, Macey, Derek's friend, is sent by their mothers on a quest to an island in the Gulf of Mexico. Her journey is to help him come out of his self-imposed prison.

Her love for him since she was five, her friendship, and her personal development led to conflicts with him. Their tit-for-tat and underlining feelings come to a head.

Their true feelings explode into an unexpected ending in this well-written friend's romance first book in a series about firefighters and their lovers.
